I think that police officers should have a college education. I know the streets and real world experience are great teachers but I believe a college education makes for a well rounded person. Officers should have at least an Associate's but preferably a Bachelor's. In my opinion Sergeants, Lieutenants, Captains and Chief's should be required to have a Bachelor's or Master's Degree. Salaries should definitely be increased for officers who have higher education.
Another good outcome of having a college degree is the interaction with society. Since there are a lot of group projects and interactions with others at school I think it would only help officers to get a degree. School helps people get new perspectives on life and people. School opens up minds. I imagine having an open mind as a police officer is a must!
As mentioned, techniques need to be developed to deal with investigations for this time period. Withmodern science and technology so prevalent today it seems like common sense to require officers to get a degree
or some type of training beyond the police academy.
