What I want to get/have received from SLCC is a very eye opening learning experience. I had heard from several people that SLCC does not have quality professors. Not true! I have had some amazing professors, some of which have challenged me beyond any challenge I've ever faced!
I know a lot of people complain about having to do General Education but I loved it. I know that many of the classes I will never completely use but I have changed as a person since taking some of these classes in that I have become more rational, logical and much more open minded. The main thing that I got out of this experience is that I am now able to think critically, which seems to have been a common learning goal from all my professors here.
My short term goal is to get a BA in Communications from the University of Utah. I am seeking a career in instructional design/technical writing. In the long term I have a goal of getting into freelance work so that I can be my own boss essentially. These are highly analytical fields and learning how to think critically and problem solve at SLCC has helped me in my future career. I also learned to not take everything (like the news) for face value, but rather to question things and dig deeper to ensure that I am receiving the most accurate, unbiased information.
